The Upcoming WordPress Gutenberg Editor

Currently the new WordPress Gutenberg editor is available to as a plugin, so you can try it out.
It will be the default editor in WordPress 5.0 which should be out before the end of 2018.

You can also check it out as a preview here. Gutenberg uses blocks for building a website, so if you used any existing page builders (Elementor, Beaver Builder, Divi Builder, WPBakery, etc.) it will feel familiar. Another thing it's worth mentioning is that Gutenberg is built using React, it's an effort on the part of the WordPress development teams to modernize WordPress core.

However, it's not all pink roses and happy unicorns farting rainbows while running around the enchanted meadows, Gutenberg's early adoption has not been very high. Currently the plugin has an average rating of 2.5 which is relatively low, over 750 people who tried it out gave it only 1 star.

A detailed talk about the WordPress Gutenberg editor

Luckily for those who try Gutenberg and find that they don'y like it, after WordPress 5.0 has been release, the old classic editor will be available in a form of a plugin.

The new editor will be compatible with your theme as long as it's selected as the default editor. The second issue that some users have is will Gutenberg be the end of the existing page builders, which does not seem to be the case, at least not entirely. The mayor plugins have already begun adopting it, for instance Elegant Themes already announced that that they will be introducing support for Gutenberg in Divi. However, small time page builder may go out of business if they do not adapt.

Basically the takeaway is: give it a try you might find it to your liking, if you happen not to like it, you can always revert to the classical editor.  You can also contribute to it on GitHub.
